Uptrend
A period when a price keeps making higher highs and higher lows, often defined as the price sitting above its moving averages.
In plain English
One common definition: the price is above its 50-day moving average, and the 50-day is above the 200-day. Trend followers buy stocks in uptrends and hope the trend keeps going.
Uncle Gary explains
Kevin's height from age 10 to 16: a clear uptrend. Kevin's height from 16 onwards: sideways, despite the running shoes.
Why it matters for your money
Strong trends tended to continue in our data, so anything that buys strong stocks looks good. A new signal has to beat the trend on its own, and the dip didn't.
